Idaho Convict Slashes Throat, Will Recover C.M Anderson, life termer at the Idaho penitentiary who yesterday attempted suicide by slashing his throat with a razor, was reported improved this morning and is expected by physicians to recover unless complications arise.Anderson now 52 years of age, has served fourteen years of a life sentence for the murder of a telegraph operator in Kootenai County in 1913.The suicide attempts believed to have been caused by despondency following the pardon boards recent denial of Andeson's application for a pardon. The prisoner managed to get possession of a razor from the prison barber shop and upon leaving he went to a dormitory in the yard where he slashed his throat. Although he cut a deep gash in his throat the jugular vein was not severed.

FISH AID PLAN FOR FREEING OF MAN IN PRISON Lawyer Uses Evidence Convicting Alleged Slayer to Free Him. BOISE, Idaho - Contention that it seemed illogical that a man would carry a bucket of fish to the scene of a murder he intended to commit was brought before the board of pardons Friday in an appeal for commutation of the life sentence of C. M. Anderson, convicted of killing an aged man named Irwin near Coeur d'Alene. Jess Hawley, Boise attorney, in reviewing the case, which was brought against Anderson seventeen years ago, declared one of the strongest pieces of evidence was that two perch were found in the room in which the aged Irwin had been shot to death as he lay in bed. Anderson had been seen previously with a bucket of perch. He was caught In Rosalia, Washington the day after the murder and contended that a gun and watch which he pawned had been sold to him previously by a man who was not brought to the trial as a witness. Prosecution contended Anderson had stolen them from Irwin. "There are a number of things in the transcript of evidence in this trial" said Attorney Hawley, "which convince me that the supreme court would most surely have refused to uphold the conviction. Stains were found on Anderson's clothes and offered in evidence as blood, though there never was an analysis to prove this." The appeal was for commutation of the sentence to thirty years imprisonment, which, with good behavior credit, would release Anderson in the near future. The board took the case under advisement.
