      Elbert Edward Newberry, 54, of Rt. 1 Raven, died Thursday morning, March14, at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Russell Co. he was a son of Mary Short Newberry of Raven and the late Noah Newberry. He was an employee of Nash Coal Co. in Raven. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. George Reedy Newberry of the home; a son Arlen Edward Newberry of Raven; two daughters, Mrs. Dewey Salyers of Tazewell, and Doris Ann Newberry of the home; three brothers, Frazier Newberry of Doran, Junior and Jimmy Newberry of Raven; five sisters, Mrs.Sherman Richardson, Mrs. Junior Short and Mrs. Russell Byrd of Raven, Mrs.Clinton Vance of Swords Creek, and Mrs. Clark Muse of High Point, N.C.;two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Richlands Tabernacle, Richlands. Burial followed in Greenhill Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Pallbearers; Clarence Richardson, Harley Cordle, Kyle Reynolds, Clarence Stillwell, Albert Richardson, Dewey Stillwell, Junion Stillwell and Ralph Stillwell. Mullins Funeral Home in Richlands was in charge.
