John Trollinger and Elizabeth Burress

Loading...

Elizabeth was born around 1776 to William Burrus/Burress. I do not know if her mother was Ellender Candler or not. She married John Trollinger on Dec. 30, 1792. John was the son of Henry Jacob Trolinger, and he was born ca 1771, in Orange County, NC.

The following posted by Jackie, at Rootsweb GenForum:

At the time of her marriage, Elizabeth Burris, with the help of her servants, operated the ferry near the mouth of Stroubles Creek in Montgomery Co. Virginia. During the War of 1812, John Trolliger Sr. served as a private in Captain William Currin's Company of Infantry, Seventy-fifth Regiment of Virginia Militia from Montgomery Co. John and Elizabeth settled at the "Old Trollinger" place on the property of his father, Henry Jacob Trollinger near Dublin. They eventually added to this and accumulated approximately two thousand acres between the present towns of Dublin and Newbern. John built the Old Mansion of this farm, only a few feet from his fathers original dwelling. He reutilized the Old Saltpetre Cave located just north of of the Dublin Cemetery, which his father had mined. John Trollinger died in Pulaski County on October 11, 1840 and was buried at the Trollinger (now Dublin) Cemetery on a hill opposite the Old Mansion that he built. Elizabeth Burris Trollinger lived in the mansion with her son, John Trollinger Jr. She was a Scottish-Irish Pioneer woman. She died at the Old Trollinger Mansion on October 17, 1869 and was buried beside her husband in the Trollinger (now Dublin) Cemetery.

(I edited some of the posting out to just what pertained to the Burress line. For the full posting by Jackie)
