      Harvey was born along the banks of the tug river in Tazewell County, Va. Four of his sons served in the wars. He was a farmer, miner, and a deputy clerk for the county of McDowell in West Virginia. He performed weddings, wrote and recorded deeds and fiduciary trusts from the McDowell Co. Court House. 1860 Census Harvey was considered literate. In the 1880 census was said Harvey had one leg.
      He owed land in McDowell County.
