    Died:
Respectfully showeth unto your worship that some three years since THOMAS LAWSON died seized and possessed of a tract of land lying and being in the Country of Stokes on the head of Barnes Branch ...206a

Thomas married Celia Hall in 1793 in Surry County, North Carolina. Celia was born in 1778 in Surry County, North Carolina; died after 1860 in Stokes County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Celia Hall was born in 1778 in Surry County, North Carolina; died after 1860 in Stokes County, North Carolina.

    Notes:

Celia Hall CAN NOT be the daughter of Randall Hall that married Elizabeth Lawson. Randall Hall, according to records was a son in law of John Lawson. He married John's daughter Elizabeth Lawson. Thomas Lawson, son of John Lawson, married Celia Hall. That would make them uncle and niece. I find it hard to believe that close of a marriage would be allowed much less produce healthy children. I have never seen any documentation of Celia's parents, so I don't know why everyone has linked Randall Hall has her father other than he seems to be the only Hall in the area of the right age, but again, the close family relationship does not make the father/daughter connection work. If anyone has any information regarding this please let me know cause I'm stumped.

    Notes:

West (Westley) Lankford, one in the same person, as a deed from Elisha Banner uses the two names interchangeably. By law, West should have been listed in the Poll tax records beginning in 1795 if his year of birth 1774 is correct. I still do not have 1803, 1804, 1805, 1806 Poll Tax records but West was not listed in the poll tax until 1807. He was possibly there from 1803 - 1806 but he was not listed from 1795-1802 when he should have been. There are only two possibilities to explain this - West was not born in 1774 or he was not in Stokes County prior to 1807 (maybe as early as 1803). By law, West had to be listed, because the poll was on every freeman. If a freeman did not have taxable property to a certain value, he still paid a tax unless exempted as an insolvent.
I believe the date of his birth is 1784 not 74, and the two census records for 1850-60 (which is where the date comes from) is incorrect. With all the records and age of his wife, the age that makes sense is for him to have been born around 1784
