Because the German pastor had a fever, Nicholas & Maria were married, in the German language, by the French Reformed pastor. The marriage record gives Nicholas' father's given name as Johann, who is listed as deceased at the time of Nicholas' marriage. Nicholas is shown as a citizen of Otterberg and a "cater" (freight handler). His father is shown as being from Birren in the Archbishopric of Metz.
