    • Don't know exactly when John died but this proves it was 1897 or after: March 5, 1897 (Pounding Mill) - Mr. Pack an aged citizen has been ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Quesenberry, (Cynthia Pack) the past week.

      Surnames: Pack - Slaughter

Unable to find the parents of JOHN PACK b. ca 1805. Know the parents of his wife, Matilda, were Ormond Delong and Sarah Reed. HARDEN PACK was m. to Maria Delong on 20 Jan 1842 and the marriage bond said HARDEN'S mother was "Elizabeth."

Harden then married Nancy E. Dean in 1851 in Tazewell Co., VA.

Now GREEN OR GREENVILLE PACK married Nancy Hooker in 1823 in Patrick Co. VA. Some say GREENVILLE PACK then married Susan Parr 31 May 1850 in Tazewell Co., VA. (This may have been the same GREENVILLE, but I don't know if it was or not - have no proof.)

Then GREENVILLE PACK married Rebecca Duncan on 13 Sep 1863 in Patrick Co., VA. I have two (2) Marriage Certificates for this marriage - one from the Commonwealth of VA in Richmond which says GREENVILLE'S parents were J and N PACK. The other marriage certificate is from Patrick Co., VA and it indicates his mother was "Elizabeth Pack." No father was named.

Also, there is a marriage record of Walter S. Stephenson to POLLY PACK in Tazewell Co., VA in 1855 showing Polly Pack's mother as "Elizabeth Pack." (It lists John Cole as her father????)

Now here are three records showing Elizabeth Pack as the Mother. Was she also the mother of my JOHN PACK???

The information I have leads me to believe that GREENVILLE, HARDEN, and POLLY were brothers and sister. But where does JOHN PACK fit? Also, there was an ISHAM PACK in Patrick Co., VA during this time period, but understand his father was, Thomas. Was JOHN PACK the brother of ISHAM?

There was also a query under "JOHN PACK" regarding Martin Slaughter because he was on the Marriage Bond for John Pack and Matilda Delong. Martin Slaughter was somehow connected to JAMES PACK who was married to Martha. JAMES died in 1853 and his will named Lucy Slaughter (daughter of Martin Slaughter) and Polly Ann Doss (daughter of James Doss) in his will.

JAMES PACK's wife, Martha, moved to Floyd Co., VA after his death and Mary Doss, age 78, niece; and L. G. Slaughter, age 18, Nepher, were shown on the 1870 Census with Martha Pack, age 92.

    John and Matilda Delong Pack
Many years ago, there were a young man and woman who lived somewhere along the banks of the Clinch River with quite a few other settlers. This chapter of Captain John Delong and his wife, Matilda, takes place around the early 1800's.....
