    2. [S-1444881251] Obituary, In the Clinch Valley Newspaper Tazewell Virginia, 22 March 1940 .
Mrs. Matilda Earls Graham, age 57, died at her home in North Tazewell Tuesday morning after more than a years illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Christian church, with the Rev. Curtis Jones officiating. Burial was in the new cemetery. She is survived by her husband, John Graham, several sisters and brothers, and the following children: Mrs. George Peery, Yukon, WV; Frank Graham, Caretta, WV; Mrs. Audrey Edmonds, Bill Graham, George Graham, Bun Graham and Shields Graham, all of North Tazewell. Dec 6, 1940The 'grim reaper' has again taken his toll. Tuesday, Nov 19, the stealthy tread of death entered the home of John Graham and spirited away the guardian angel of his household, his wife. Sarah Matilda Graham, age 57, before marriage to John Graham, Jan. 17, 1900, was Sarah Matilda Earls, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.P. Earls of Cliffield, Va. To this union 10 children were born, three of whom preceded her to the grave. We are sometimes at a loss to understand why God should thus take her away. Yet there is another side. Away, yes away, from a troubled world where she endeavored to bring happiness and sunshine in reality "to them who labor shall come rest." Matilda was a diligent worker of the church, a devoted mother and a faithful wife. She has set the standard high; she was the type who found her duty at home. As the poet once said, "Many a flower was born to blush unseen." Her life was like a beautiful flower that blooms and blows under the summer sun to wilt tender the hoary frosts of autumn. Heaven will be made brighter by her presence, there no epitaph will perhaps ever glorify her deeds or no epic make her immortal but her noble life and cheery smile will live long after her face has been forgotten. We want to take this means of thanking each and every one who helped us in any way during the recent illness and death of our beloved wife and mother - John Graham and children.
