    Witnesseth: That for one dollar cash in hand paid by the parties of the second part to the parties of the first part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledges, and other consideration as hereinafter set forth, the said parties of the first part do hereby grand, sell and convey, with covenants of general warranty of title, unto the said Byrd P. Burress and Ella Burress all those two certain lots or parcels of land, together with all improvements thereon and appurtenances thereunto belonging, situated and being in Baptist Valley, in Tazewell County, Virginia designated and described as Lots No 15 and 16 on that certain map or plat entitled: sub-division of the Gus Farm situate in Baptist Valley, Tazewell County, Virginia: which said map or plat is attached to and recorded with a certain deed from J.P. Payne and wife to Kathleen Payne, of record in the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court of Tazewell County, Virginia, reference to which is here made for a more complete description of the property hereby conveyed; and being the same real estate which was conveyed to the grantors herein by J. Ed Bandy and Blanche Bandy, his wife, by deed dated the 24th day of July, 1939 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk's Office in Deed Book 145 page 306 reference to which is also made for a more complete description of the property hereby conveyed.

    Reserving, however, unto the grantors, and to the survivor of said grantors, so long as either of said grantors may live, a life estate in said lots or parcels of land hereby conveyed.

    It is expressly understood between the parties hereto that there is a Vendors Lien subsisting against this property to secure certain deferred installments of the purchase price owing to J.A. Payne as set forth and mentioned in the aforesaid deed from J. Ed Bandy and wife. Of the notes therein mentioned, the last two in the principal sum of $22.22 and $22.23, respectively, are unpaid and outstanding. Simpkins, Justice, issued a warrant the 10th day of December, 1934, directed to Lick Puckett (?) of said County and delivered the same ? to Lick Puckett (?) of McDowell County, West Virginia.

    Upon the 10th day of December, 1934, said Lick Puckett (?) executed said warrant by bringing before me, R.L. Simpkins, Justice aforesaid, at my office in said County and District, Big Creek, the above named defendant.

    Now on this 10th day of December, 1934, the defendant being arraigned his plea is that he is guilty ?? Proceeded to try the case.

    After hearing all the evidence and argument by counsel, the verdict of the court ?? the defendant is guilty. The defendant is therefore fined 1.00 - ? 3.20 - ? 1.25 ? Jail fine 10.95. Paid 12-12-34 #1162

    Charging that her husband, E.H. Burress, had "beaten me up." Mrs. Bessie Burress, of Welch, had Magistrate H.W. Herndon of Welch issue a warrant for his arrest Tuesday. Officers lodged him in jail to await a hearing before the magistrate.

    Former Countian Reported Killed In Fort Worth, Texas Emory H. Burress, 37, former resident of McDowell County, now in the army, was instantly killed in an automobile accident at Fort Worth, Texas, Saturday afternoon, according to word received here over the weekend.

    No details of the accident were received other than that the car was struck by a train, at a railroad crossing, killing Mr. Burress and injuring two women.

    Born in Tazewell County, Mr. Burress was employed for a few years by the Carter Coal Company, at Caretta, and later worked for a railroad company at Huntington. He had been in the west the past few years.

    He is survived by his father, Raleigh H. Burress of Cedar Bluff; four brothers, Sherman and Byrd, at Richlands, Va.; Ernest, at Caretta; and Perry Vernon, who is in the service. He also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Tyler Bledsoe of Squire, WV and two sisters in Baltimore, Md. and a son, Vernon, who is in the US Navy.

    This day came the state by her attorney and the prisoner, Emery Hamilton Burress, in person and by counsel, was set to the bar of the court in custody of the keeper of the jail of this county and thereupon the prisoner demurred to and moved the court to quash the indictment against him herein and the court after maturely considering said demurrer and motion to quash doth overruled the same.

    Thereupon the prisoner for plea says that he is not guilty in manner and form as the sate in her indictment against him herein hath alleged and this he puts himself upon the county and the state doth the like, and by agreement the trial of this case is passed until the 18th day of January 1955 and the prisoner is remanded to jail.

    Died of a heart attack. Story from adopted daughter Patsy is that he came home from work and complained to Fannie that he wasn't feeling well. Fannie told him to go lay down and she would get him some aspirin. She she returned to the room she found him passed away.

    Georgia E. (Burress) Frank, 88, of Glen Rock, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center, Hanover. She was the wife of the late William F. Harman and the late Louis E. Frank. Mrs. Frank was born on April 15, 1915, in Richlands, Va., a daughter of the late Raul and Cannie Mae (Combs) Burress. Formerly of Baltimore, she lived in the Glen Rock area since 1992 and she was a member of the Shrewsbury Baptist Church. She leaves a son, William G. Harman Sr., of Glen Rock, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Terry L. Harman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Burial will be in Moreland Park Cemetery, Baltimore. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Richard Bishop.

He was born in Berwind, W.Va. and was a son of the late Byrd Patton and Ella Mitchell Burress, both McDowell County natives. He was a U. S. Army Korean War Veteran, retired Chief Warrant Officer 3. Mr. Burress made his home in the Tazewell County area the past 31 years, was a former employee of Mullins Ford in Richlands and attended the North Tazewell United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Addison. Survivors are: His Wife, Mrs. Pauline Blankenship Burress; one son, Mr. Alan W. Burress and wife, Cheryl of Pounding Mill, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Jean Burress Holmes of Richlands, Va.; grandchildren, Kevin Wayne Burress, wife, Cindy, Christopher Burress, and Gregory Keith Burress and wife, Teresa; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Brooke Burress, Jordyn Burress, Miranda Burress, Cody Lester, Cheyenne Hope Burress, and Shonna Lester; special caregivers, members of North Tazewell United Methodist Church and Fincastle Baptist Church. He was a protestant. Surviving are his wife; Shirley A. Burress of Crystal River, Fla., two sons; Edward Burress of Gloucester, Va, and Gregory Burress of Homosassa, Fla., one daughter; Michelle Burress of FL and six grandchildren. Private cremation will take place. Brown Funeral Home, Crystal River - Lecanto.
