    William Ira (Bill) Burress, 63, of the Pea Patch section of Jewell Ridge, died Thursday Nov. 1, in a Richlands hospital after a long illness. Born at Jewell Ridge, he was a son of the late John William and Rose Griffits Burress, both Tazewell County natives. A retired miner, he was formerly employed by Jewell Ridge Coal Co, at Jewell Valley and was a member of UMWA Local Union No. 7327 at Jewell Valley. He had made his home in the Jewell Ridge area most of his life and was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ near Whitewood. Three brothers preceded him in death. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Roma E. Day Burress; three daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Carol) Vest of Pilot, Va., Mrs. Troy Ray (Janice) Keene of Jewell Ridge and Mrs. Leon (Joyce) Reed of Brown Mountain; three sons, Hobert Ira and Clyde Larry Burress of Stafford and Newton Phillip Burress of Jewell Ridge; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Bennett of Tazewell, Mrs. Helen Vance of Princeton WV, and Mrs. Lila Dial of Baltimore, MD; six brothers, Hobert Burress of Whitewood, Harvey Burress of Martinsburg WV, Frankie Burress of Tampa FL, Titus Burress of Rosedale, Henry Burress of Jewell Ridge and Paul Burress, address unknown; one foster brother, Lee Burress of Pilot; and 18 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at noon at the community Holiness Church near Whitewood with Rev. Walter Riffe and Rev. McGinnis Riffe officiating. Burial followed in the Day Family Cemetery at Pea Patch. Nephews served as pallbearers. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands was in charge of arrangements.

    William married Roma Effie Day in Tazewell County, Virginia. Roma (daughter of Newton Blair Day and Evelyn Davis) was born about 1923 in West Virginia, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
