    Powell Lawson Jr., 60, of the Road Ridge Section of Raven, died Tuesday morning, March 30, in a Richlands hospital after a long illness. Born in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late Powell and Maggie Short Lawson. He was a retired miner and was preceded in death by one son, Stevie Lawson in 1969. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clara Helbert Lawson; four daughters, Mrs. Johnny (Linda) Shelton, Mrs. Thommy (Judy) Brown, both of Raven, Mrs. Howard (Tina) Mullins of Tazewell and Kathy Lawson of the home; five sons, Bill, Jim, Dayne, Earnest Lawson, all of Raven and Denney Lawson of Doran; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Johnson of Raven; one brother, Herman Lawson of Raven; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 2, at 2 pm at the Road Ridge Assembly of God Church with Rev. James Salyers and Rev. Ed Short officiating. Burial followed in the Lawson Family Cemetery at Raven. Friends served as pallbearers. Tazewell County Funeral Home in Cedar Bluff was in charge of the arrangements.

    Powell married Clara Leala Helbert on 27 Jul 1942 in Tazewell County, Virginia. Clara (daughter of John Epison Helbert and Mary Belle Carter) was born on 29 Jun 1924 in Raven, Tazewell County, Virginia; died on 30 Sep 1999 in Tazewell County, Virginia; was buried in Road Ridge Community Cem, Raven, Tazewell County, Virginia.
