    Sherman Newberry, 57, of Raven, was dead on arrival at a Richlands hospital Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, following an apparent heart attack. He was born a Raven, a son of the late Charlie Anderson and Ettie Hess Newberry, both Raven natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Raven area and was a former miner until his retirement in 1963. He was a member of the Holiness Church and was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Laura Nipper. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margie Lucille Newberry; four daughters, Miss Gladys Newberry of the home, Mrs. Jesse (Joann) Hess, Ms. Jimmy (Shirley) Lowe and Mrs. Larry(Judy) Rigsby, all of Raven; four sons Basil Edward Newberry of Radford, Joe Howard Newberry and James Sherman Newberry both of Raven, and Sherman Dewayne Newberry of the home; his step-mother, Mrs. Mary Dye Newberry of Raven, eight sisters, Mrs. RosiLowe of Tazewell, Mrs. Marie Robinette of Princton WV, Mrs. Irene Jamison and Mrs. Geraldine e Philley, both of Chicago IL. Mrs. Pearl Brown of Round Lake IL, Mrs. Ellen Blankenship of Richlands, Mrs.. Edith Colquitt of Yuma AZ, Mrs. Emily Dye of Zion IL., two brothers, Charlie Newberry of Round Lake and Bobby Sam Newberry of Chicago, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Clearview United Methodist Church at Raven with Rev. Calvin Maas, Rev. Claude Reynolds and Rev. Thommy Ramsey officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers were Joe Nicewander, Jerry Mullins, James Clark, Bill Roy, Gary Rolls, Charles Pipin and respiratory therapy technicians of the Mattie Williams Hospital served as flower bearers. Hurst-Scott funeral home of Richlands was in charge of the arrangements.
